SILICA GEL
Silica gel is one of the most commonly used desiccants (absorbent) and consists of nanoporous Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), Magnesium Oxide (MgO), Iron Oxide (Fe2O3), Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) and Calcium Sulphate (CaSO4).
Silica gel comes in the form of white beads with an average size of about 3 mm (1/8”). In this case, it is an unsaturated, non-toxic and non-flammable material. The open nanoporous structure with an average pore size of 2.4 - 2.5nm translates to a surface area of 800m2/g. Thanks to its open nanoporous structure, it can adsorb and retain water molecules (moisture) up to a maximum of 40% of its own weight and up to 300% of its volume. Silica gel beads swell as they retain moisture.
Silica gel works in the temperature range of 0-150 °C, but performs best at room temperatures and moderate to high humidity (60-90% RH).

As it gets moisture, it swells visibly and fills its special package. It is the only product in the world that can do this.
